Wanda Bounds Obituary

Wanda Shoemaker Bounds, 64, of Neely, MS, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 6, 2020. She was born August 18, 1956 to Elmo and Louise Shoemaker.

Wanda retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Biloxi, MS where she worked as a nurse.

Wanda loved her family and friends fiercely and was unafraid to be herself, speak her mind, and stand up for what she believed was right.  As a homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother she was strong, capable and tireless, always striving to make everything better. She enjoyed baking, sewing, and making day trips to the coast for fresh seafood straight from the docks or a day spent crabbing.  She never failed to bake a cake and pray over the family receiving it when she saw a need. She faithfully woke before daylight to read her bible and spend time with the Lord before her day started. Prayer notes have been found in numerous nooks of her home where she wrote prayers over her family and friends and hid them away.

Wanda cherished spending her days with her loving husband Paul. You rarely saw one without the other and she brought immense joy and laughter to others with her humorous story telling of their adventures.

Wanda had a mother’s special love for Angie and Amy and her granddaughters Chyenne and Marlayna. Even though she never sugar coated her advice, she was always supportive, encouraging, wise, and so proud of her girls.

Ephesians 6:2 commands “Honor your father and mother” and Wanda did this by retiring and moving back to her childhood community to faithfully be her parents’ caretaker in their later years.

Wanda’s life was a blessing, her memory is a treasure and she is loved beyond words, and missed beyond measure!

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents Elmo Shoemaker and Louise Roberts. She is survived by her husband Paul Bounds of Avera, MS; her daughters Angela Sumrall (Joel) of Soso, MS, and Amanda Warrick of Avera, MS; her granddaughters Chyenne Sanders of Soso, MS, and Marlayna Warrick of Avera, MS; her children Danny Bounds (Cecila) of Avera, MS, Chancy Bounds (Melissa) of Avera, MS, Gina Bounds Turner (Rufkin) of Brushy Creek, MS; her grandchildren Brittany Walley (AJ) of Richton, MS, Andrew Bounds (Kara) of Avera, MS, Madison Hubbard (Brennan) of Leakesville, MS, Blake Bounds of Avera, MS, Gerrin Shaws of Brushy Creek, MS, Garret Shaw of Brushy Creek, MS, and 1 great grandson Gunner Bounds; her brothers Oswald Ray “Billy” Gunther (Jean) of Summit, MS, and Tommy Gunther of Magnolia, MS; her sisters Sandra Bradberry (Kirk) of Conroe, TX, and Kathy Owens (Jerry) of Haile, LA; her uncle Enmon Shoemaker (Dianne) of Leaskesville, MS, and aunt Kate Herndon of Summerland, MS and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
