Violet Henderson Obituary

Violet Henderson, age 81, of Lucedale, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2021, in George County Hospital. She was a charter member of Southside Baptist Church and continued her service to the Lord as a faithful member of Journey Church. Violet worked hard in every aspect of her life. She was a dedicated a nurse for many years, working in surgery, the ER, the ICU and as an EMT. Violet was very civic-minded and dedicated to her community. She served as the Associate Chief of the Twin Creek Volunteer Department alongside her husband J.T.

Violet was a fighter. She was a proud breast cancer survivor and was dedicated to bringing awareness to the disease through Relay for Life and encouraging other survivors. Violet was a talented artist; she was well-known for her portraits, landscapes, and wildlife paintings. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, photography, quilting, and canning.  She was a devoted wife, caring mother, and influential grandmother. As the true matriarch of her family, she will be deeply missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Bryan Martin and Emma Raspberry Martin; her son, Karl Henderson; her siblings: Mary Thomasson, Benjamin Martin, Sammie Smith, Shannon Lott, and Gary Wayne Martin, and her grandchild: Kyra Henderson. Those left to cherish her memory include: her husband of 59 years, Joseph Thomas “J.T.” Henderson; her children: Todd Henderson, Stance (Vickie) Henderson, and Kristie (Casey) Dillistone; her five grandchildren: Tyler Henderson, Chelsey Henderson, Hadyn Henderson, Lydia Grace Campbell, and Skyler Henderson; two great-grandchildren: Adrianna and Caithan; her siblings: Elwin Martin, Catherine Small, and Lorraine Johnson; and her many nieces and nephews, including her much beloved niece Kim Thomasson.

The visitation for Violet Henderson will be Thursday, September 9, 2021, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Journey Church. The funeral service will follow, beginning at 11:00 AM in the church sanctuary with Bro. Berry Jemison and Bro. Joey Cochran officiating. The burial will follow in Journey Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Kim Thomasson and the entire ICU staff at George Regional Hospital for the exceptional care given to Mrs. Violet Henderson during her time there.
