Shannon Thomas Tanner Obituary

Shannon Thomas Tanner, age 19, passed away May 20, 2026. He recently graduated from Columbia Academy on May 15, 2026, where he left a lasting legacy among the student body, faculty, and staff. Shannon had proudly signed to join the United States Air Force and was looking forward to serving his country with honor and dedication. He enjoyed attending church with family and friends and called Pathway Church in Mobile his home church. Shannon greatly enjoyed his job as a Waffle House “Rockstar,” where his outgoing personality and kind spirit touched countless lives. Larger than life, he never met a stranger and had a special way of making everyone around him feel important. He was a loving son, brother, fun uncle, grandson, cousin and devoted friend. At a young age, Shannon made the selfless decision to become an organ donor. His family honored those wishes, and through his final gift, his life and legacy will continue to touch and bless others for years to come.


He is preceded in death by his father, Philip Harvey Tanner; paternal grandparents, Harvey Shannon and Tressie Tanner; maternal grandmother, Mary Hughes.       


Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Pamela Thompson; siblings, Mark Brown, Stephanie Evans, and Anna (Sammie, Jr.) Broom; in-laws, Kayla Brown and Curtis Evans; nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly, Addison Evans, Gary Evans, Brennley Brown, Axel Evans, and Sammie Broom III; maternal grandfather, John Hughes, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.         


The Visitation will be Friday, May 29, 2026 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Moments Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be Saturday, May 30, 2026 beginning at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Adam Parker and Bro. Brian Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Tanners Cemetery with pallbearers including Marshall Dyess Jr., Dakota Nolan, Caiden Rogan, Patrick Slocum, Brandon Slocum, and Taylor Lofton. Honorary Pallbearer will be Timothy Nolan.
