Richard Porter Obituary

Mr. Richard Porter passed away December 18, 2024, at Mobile Infirmary in Mobile, AL.  Richard was born on July 12, 1951 and raised in Pampa, Texas. He enjoyed bull riding for the rodeo in his youngest of days. He joined the US. Army in 1969 before enlistment in the Navy in 1974, fulfilling his dream to be a helicopter gunman.  He served two tours in Vietnam before ending his service with an honorable discharge. Afterwards, he eventually moved to Lucedale MS, following his best friend and role model, his older brother, John Porter.  He was of the Baptist faith.

He relied on his trade as a welder and enjoyed truck driving, during his life, before retiring in 2012 from Lucedale Ready Mix.  He had hopes of spending retirement outdoors; horseback riding, fishing, and riding a Harley Davidson. His hopes were almost lost, however, with the care and assistance of his niece, Deborah Guy, he fulfilled his fishing dream.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Letha (Rush) Porter of Pampa, TX; best friend and brother, John Lee Porter of Lucedale, MS; nephew, Jearl Dean Selman of Garland, TX.

He is survived by his nieces, Deborah Guy of Lucedale, MS, Michele Kim Porter of Garland, TX and Monica Mae Park Lusk of California; sister-in-law, Lula (late John) Porter and Eugene Ainsworth of Lucedale, MS.

Burial will be in Biloxi National Cemetery on January 7, 2025.
