Orba Darvin Tompkins Sr.

Orba Darvin “Dob” Tompkins, Sr, age 86, passed away March 27, 2024. He proudly served in the United States Army, and represented the US when Alaska became the 49th state. In his early career, he was a master mechanic on the Alyeska pipeline in Fairbanks, Alaska where he and his family lived for several years. Later, he relocated back to Mississippi and was an over-the-road truck driver, and “reluctantly” retired at the young age of 80. He was a member of Movella Missionary Baptist Church, devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and dear friend who will be greatly missed.      

He is preceded in death by his son, D.J. Tompkins; great grandson, Canton Bruce Malcom; parents, Aubrey and Cleo Tompkins, and Lois Robertson; siblings, James “Buck” Tompkins, Verlin “Bud” Tompkins, and Jeanette Kirby; son-in-law, Justin Malcom.   

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 59 years, Carolyn Jones Tompkins; children, Cassandra Beth Tompkins and Connie Malcom; grandchildren, Lacy (Jamie) Box, Jeremy (Denise) Pierce, Chala Verdin, Whitney Malcom, Briana (Byron) Cooley, and Travis (Nicole) Malcom; great-grandchildren, Kelsey (Ryan), Zach, Trevor, Maddie, Wyatt, Avery, Aiden, Keaton, Ryleigh, Gabe, Hallie, Liam, Cruze, Ellie, Graham, CarieAnn, and Harlem Reese; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.                         

The Visitation will be Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Moments Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Donald Brown and Bro. Joey Reus officiating. Burial will follow in Movella Missionary Baptist Church cemetery. Pallbearers include Jeremy Pierce, Jamie Box, Byron Cooley, Travis Malcom, Ryan Goff and Josh Hammond. Honorary Pallbearers include Louie Howard and Ronnie Tompkins.
