Myrtie Mae Smith

Myrtie Mae Smith, age 94, of Lucedale, Mississippi went to be with the Lord on October 11, 2018.  She was residing with her son, Dean and his wife, Natalie, at the time of her death.  Ms. Smith was born September 27, 1924, in Escatawpa, Mississippi.  She was a long-time resident of Escatawpa, where her late husband, N. H. Smith, pastored at Four Mile Creek Baptist Church, and at Shady Grove Baptist Church, where he pastored for many years.  She was a member of Agricola Baptist Church for several years and in most recent years was a member of Freedom Christian Fellowship, where her son, Dean Smith pastors. 

Ms. Smith was loved, admired, respected and appreciated by her family and friends.  Ms. Smith was preceded in her death by her father and mother, Cleveland and Alma Byrd, her brother, Carl Byrd, her husband, N. H. Smith, Sr. and her son, Nalty Henry Smith, Jr.  She will be missed dearly by her loving children, Troy Smith (Jamae Neal Smith), Reid Smith (Denice Tanner Smith), Terry Smith (Dee Ryals Smith), Bradford Smith (Cynthia Williams Smith), Jan Smith Young (Dean Young), Dean Smith (Natalie Fulton Smith); Fourteen grandchildren:  Shane (Allyson), Danielle (Paul), Blake, Kirk (Mickie), Natalie (Garrett), Quintin (Carla), Kristal (Thom), Micah (Briar), Joshua, Jonathan, Abi, Caleb (Marley), Josiah (Irma) and Rachel; 19 great grandchildren, dear nieces and nephews and many special friends including her friend and caregiver, Tara Miller.

The visitation for Myrtie Mae Smith will be Sunday, October 14, 2018 from 2:00 pm until the funeral begins at 4:00 pm, at Shady Grove Baptist Church.  Ms. Smith will be laid to rest next to her husband at Shady Grove Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Ms. Smith’s grandsons:  Blake Smith, Kirk Smith, Quintin Smith, Joshua Young, Jonathan Young, Caleb Smith and Josiah Smith.
