Lyman G. Herndon, better known as Buddy, passed away peacefully November 6, 2024. He was a graduate of Leakesville High School and worked as a Millwright at the sawmill in Citronelle all his life. He served on the Greene County Beat 3 water board over 25 years and a member of Unity Baptist Church. Past times were spent visiting family and friends on the back porch while smoking his favorite pipe. He was a devoted husband, loving father, pawpaw and brother. He was a true figure in the Unity Community who will be deeply missed.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Jean Merle Cooley Herndon; daughter, Tracy Lynn McIlwain; parents, Leonard and Susie Herndon; brothers, William Floyd Herndon, Richard Earl Herndon, Clyde Ray Herndon, Fred Eugene Herndon, Leonard Lloyd Herndon, Charles Herndon; sisters, Mary Lavene Ezell and Julia Lynell Massey
Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Leonard Herndon and Jeff (Joy) Herndon; grandchildren, Chad McIlwain, Cory (Fallon) McIlwain, Maci McIlwain, Easton Herndon and Hadley Herndon; great-grandchildren, Cohen, Coye, Case, Huck and Eva McIlwain; sister, Ann Earlene Pierce.
The Visitation for Lyman Herndon will be Monday, November 11, 2024 at Moments Funeral Home, Lucedale from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM. The Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 in the funeral home chapel beginning at 10:00 AM with Bro. Stephen Crigler, and Bro. Fred McCann officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Unity Baptist Cemetery, where Buddy will be laid to rest by his wife. Those honored to be Pallbearers include Easton Herndon, Blane Davis, Brennen Ferguson, DD Bradley, Butch Dueitt, and Jason Miller.
