Linwood Turner, age 97, went home to be with the Lord on January 13, 2026.
He was born on October 4, 1928, in Pleasant Hill. Linwood proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a Military Police officer during the Korean War.
Following his military service, he married the love of his life, Rosetta “Rose” Thompson. He worked in land surveying with Rowe Engineering and Surveying in Mobile and with Basila Manufacturing before founding his own business, Turner Surveying. In addition to his professional work, Linwood raised cattle and poultry well into his later years. Through the Turner farm, he provided jobs, guidance, and lasting life lessons to many young men.
Linwood was a faithful and active member of Unity Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, taught Sunday School, and led the congregation in music and singing for many years. He also participated in mission trips and was a devoted member of the Gideons.
He deeply enjoyed time with his family and simple pleasures such as roller skating, riding his bicycle—often backwards—gardening, and being outdoors. Above all, Linwood loved the Lord and lived a life of service to his church, community, family, and friends.
His legacy of faith, hard work, and service will live on through all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Clara Rosetta “Rose” Turner; son, Don Turner; grandson, Douglas Jackson; parents, Edna Ball and Ottis Turner; siblings, Bonita Turner and Otis Gay Turner.
