Lillie Voncile Hataway Lamb passed away in her beloved home on September 2, 2024, with her family by her side, on her husband Jack’s birthday. She was known to most of us as Voncile, Meme, and Ms. Lillie. Born on October 1, 1933, in Lucedale, MS, to Lillie and BR Hataway, she had 4 siblings: Jr, Larry, Danny, and her beloved sister Vera Nell. She graduated from Agricola High School, where she was named Ms. Agricola and Most Beautiful. Voncile attended Perkinston Jr. College for a short time. She met her husband, Jack, at a church Youth Group where he mentioned to one of his friends, "I am gonna marry that girl." They married on December 27, 1953, and had 4 children: Diane, Tommy, and Terry. Unfortunately, Terry Richard passed away shortly after his birth. Voncile was also blessed with 6 grandchildren: Joey, Matthew, Aaron, Marley, Britney, and Wil, and 5 great-grandchildren: Creed, Maddox, Cruze, Elliyson, and Crockett. Voncile lived her entire life in Lucedale, MS and was a member of the First United Methodist Church (First Church) where she sang in the choir and taught at the Nursery School Sunday School. Dedicated to her family, Voncile was always there to listen, give a hug, wipe a tear, and engage in numerous activities with her family. She was also known for her meticulous housekeeping and gardening skills, earning the nickname "The Garden Lady." Additionally, Voncile was very talented, excelling in various crafts such as sewing, crocheting, quilting, and needlepoint. She also had a particular fondness for shopping and was a classy southern lady who adored shoes. Throughout her life, Voncile had several jobs, most notably with the George County Sheriff’s Office, Main Drug, Carps Department Store, Dollar Store Department Store, Foxy Lady Dress Shop, and as an Optical Receptionist with Dr. Blevins, Optician. She will be truly missed by all who were honored to know her.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Harvey Jack Lamb Jr.; infant son, Terry Richard; parents B.R. and Lillie Hataway; siblings, B.R. Hataway Jr., Larry Hataway, Danny Hataway, Ricky Josey, Bill and Dot Lamb, R.W. and Betty Jo McBride.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Diane Lamb (Gary) Jackson, Tommy (Tina) Lamb, and Terry (Lisa) Lamb; grandchildren, Joe (Nicole) Jackson, Matthew (Lyndsey) Lamb, Aaron (TaLaceia) Lamb, Britney (B.J.) Patterson, Marley (Caleb) Smith, and Wil Lamb; great grandchildren, Creed, Maddox, Cruze, Ellisyn, and Crockett; sister, Vera Nell (Donald) Catlett; personal caregiver and friend, Tammy Brewer; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The visitation will be Monday, September 9, 2024 at First Church of Lucedale from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm in the church sanctuary with Bro. David Newman and Bro. Jeff Bass officiating. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Matthew Lamb, Aaron Lamb, Wil Lamb, Caleb Smith, Jason Hataway, Jamie Hataway, Jody Hataway and Barry Havard. Honorary bearers include, Gary Hataway, Gary Jackson and Alan Eubanks.
