Lawrence Rounsaville Jr. Obituary

Lawrence Dewey "Larry" Rounsaville Jr. passed away on April 27, 2024, at the age of 80, surrounded by his loving family. Larry lived a life marked by bravery, service, and devotion. Larry will be dearly missed by his devoted family and cherished friends. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Beyond his professional life, Larry found joy in the simple pleasures of farming, gardening, and carpentry. His hands were always busy, tending to the land and creating beauty with his craftsmanship that he learned from his father’s skilled hands. Larry’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. He was a devout follower of Jesus Christ and began each day with the solace and wisdom found in the pages of the Bible.

Larry proudly served in the United States Army, where he exemplified bravery and commitment throughout his career. Rising through the ranks to become a Master Sergeant and a distinguished member of the Green Berets, Larry's service spanned multiple tours in Vietnam. He was a valued member of the Special Forces in the 5th, 7th, and 10th Airborne units out of Fort Bragg, where he displayed exceptional skill, courage, and leadership. Larry specialized in survival and weapons training, honing his skills to perfection and sharing his expertise with his comrades. His sharp intellect and keen intuition also led him to excel in Intelligence Operations, where his insights were instrumental in keeping his fellow soldiers safe.  After retiring from the military, Larry continued his life of service, this time as a respiratory therapist at the Biloxi VA. For 28 years, he cared for his fellow veterans, providing comfort and healing with compassion and skill.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Dewey Rounsaville and Jessie Holifield Rounsaville; sisters, Betty McMurphy and Vondell Evans.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Carol Rounsaville; daughters, Taylor (Bryan) Beeler of Clarksville, Tennessee, Grace Rounsaville of Lucedale, Mississippi, Gine McLeod of Biloxi, Mississippi, and Cathy Mancini, of Biloxi; son, Lawrence D. (Jacqueline) Rounsaville, III of Northeast, Maryland; grandson, William Dana Rounsaville; nephews, Fred (Donda) Evans of Coral Springs, Florida, and George (Barbara) Evans of Middleburg, Florida; numerous other family and friends.
