Mrs. Julia Mitchell Sargent was born to the union of the late Austin and Arnetta Bryant Mitchell on August 11, 1945, in Leaf, MS. Julia departed this earthly life on July 26, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones. At an early age she professed her faith, accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, and unified with Mt. Rose Baptist Church in Leaf, MS. She also enjoyed worshipping at Lily Grove Baptist Church (Lucedale) and Mt. Sinai Family Worship Church (Bexley).
On October 22, 1966, she united in Holy Matrimony with Johnny Victoria Sargent, Sr., and they were blessed to celebrate 42 years of marriage. This union was blessed with two sons. Julia was a graduate of Oak Grove High School in Lucedale, MS and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Jackson State College (later renamed Jackson State University) and a Master of Education Degree from William Carey College. She was a Government and Economics teacher at George County High School for 29 years.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Johnny Victoria Sargent, Sr.; parents, Austin and Arnetta Mitchell; three sisters, Vera Bolton, Jeannette Mitchell Kennedy, and Christine Mitchell Pickett.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Kenneth Brian (Bobbie) Sargent of Gulfport, MS and Johnny Victoria Sargent, Jr. of Ridgeland, MS; two sisters, Margie Everett of Waynesboro, MS and Bessie McDonald of Missouri; six grandchildren, Bryan Jonanthan Sargent, Chaisley Katlyn Sargent, Lauren Victoria Sargent, April Nicole Sargent, Keneisha Sargent, and Jacob Gabriel Sargent; six great-grandchildren: Graeson Chaise Sargent, Ka’liyah Brooke Wilson, Brylin Jonathan Sargent, Bryan Jonathan Sargent, Jr., Brenleigh Gayle Sargent, and Baryn Gage Sargent; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
The Visitation will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM at Moments Funeral Home. A private Funeral Service will follow with Rev. Rondel Sinclair, Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Lily Grove Cemetery.
