Joyce Elizabeth “Moody” Ivey, age 82, passed away July 23, 2024. Joyce attended her first 2 years of school in Neely MS then moved to George County. She completed 3rd - 12th grades at Basin High School where she graduated in 1960. Joyce loved playing basketball in high school and continued to play on an independence team after high school. Joyce loved God, her family, singing and shopping. She was never seen in public without her hair perfectly styled. She loved singing and shared a gift of natural harmony with her sisters--whether they were singing gospel music or oldies from high school days--she made sure everyone sang their part correctly and kept them straight--always in her oldest sister role. If you visited her, you were going to hear WOSM playing on the radio in her home. Gospel music was her favorite thing. She loved going to Gospel sings and spent many years traveling around as one of the Melody Girls. Later, she joined her son and grandchildren on stage as they began to realize their talents for singing. This was one of her greatest joys- being able to share the gospel through song with them as the Ivey Family and supporting her grandson, Joshua’s, ministry.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph “Jakie” Clinton Ivey Jr.; parents, Ora Lee and Dan Roy Moody; sister, Barbara Parnell.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Carley Gilbert William Emerson; sons, Steve (Tina) Ivey and Craig (Denise) Ivey; stepson, Russell (Christy) Emerson; grandchildren, Shannon (Josh) Staton, Joshua Ivey, Ethan (Whitney) Ivey, Dana Tanner, Monica (Joe) Gee, Tony (Shandy) Eubanks, and Junior (Jessica) Albuquerque; 25 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; siblings, Jeanette (Larry) Ivey, Rita (Gene) Howard, Rosemary Moody, Karen (Ronnie) Tanner, Paul (Sherry) Moody, Darwin Moody, and Maggie (Zack) Duke; numerous other relatives and friends.
