Joseph Thomas "J.T." Henderson Obituary

Joseph Thomas “J.T.” Henderson, age 89, passed away on July 21, 2026. Born in 1936 to Lige and Effie Henderson, J.T. lived a life defined by service, hard work, and an unwavering love for his family and community.

A graduate of Lucedale High School, J.T. proudly served in the Army National Guard Reserves following graduation. As a young man, he traveled extensively throughout the United States as a pipeline pipe fitter, making numerous trips from the Gulf Coast to Canada and more from Georgia to California. He was a proud member of Local 798 out of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

A lifelong resident of Lucedale, J.T. spent most of his life in the Twin Creek community, where he became a familiar and beloved figure. He was the founding member of the Twin Creek Volunteer Fire Department and served as its president for years. Affectionately known as the "Mayor of Twin Creek," he was always willing to lend a helping hand or offer a friendly conversation. He also served the citizens of George County as Constable for Beat 5 for eight years and later cared for the George County Fairgrounds as its custodian.

He was the owner and operator of Henderson Nursery, where local families looked forward to purchasing his spring garden plants each year.

In life, J.T. was a man of deep faith who loved God, his family, and his country.

In death, J.T. will be remembered for his service to his community and the many people who lived there.

He never met a stranger, and if he did, chances were he knew their parents, grandparents, or at least their neighbors.

He is preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 58 years, Violet Martin Henderson; sons, Karl Thomas Henderson and Joseph Todd Henderson; parents, Lige and Effie Henderson; brothers Lige Jr “son”, Mac, and Babe Henderson; sister, Bethel Joy Henderson; grandchild, Kyra Henderson.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Stance (Vickie) Henderson; daughter, Kristie (Casey) Dillistone; grandchildren, Tyler (Claudia) Henderson, Chelsey Henderson, Hadyn Henderson, Grace Campbell, and Skyler Henderson; great grandchildren, Adrianna, Caithan, Ravi, and Nahoo; brother, Sam Henderson; sister, Bel Faye Kittrell; special brother-in-law and best friend, Jerry Kittrell; dear caregivers, Mary Bell and Lori Rogers; numerous other relatives and friends.
