Johnnie Curtis Slay Obituary

Johnnie Curtis Slay Jr, age 57, passed away May 26, 2026. Johnnie was a devoted husband, loving father, and the heart of his family. He spent 25 years as a truck driver, proudly following in his father’s footsteps and fulfilling his lifelong dream. When he wasn’t on the road, you could usually find him hunting, fishing, cheering on the LSU Tigers and Miami Dolphins football teams, or catching a NASCAR race on TV whenever he could.

More than anything, he loved his family. He was the kind of man who showed his love through hard work, loyalty, and always being there when he was needed. The memories, stories, laughter, and love he gave so freely will be carried in our hearts forever. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

He is preceded in death by his father, Johnnie Slay Sr; mother, Phyllis Havens; sister, Laurie Slay; brother, Kenneth Slay; son, Johnny Matthews.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sarah Slay; children, Ashley Slay, Stephanie Slay, Thomas Blair (Angela), Kristen Blackburn, Spencer Blair, Angel Slay (Zachary), and Madeline (Trevor) Cochran; 19 grandchildren; brother, Darrie (Manda) Slay; mummy, Ava Brunner Slay; paw, Shannon Havens; numerous other relatives and friends.

The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.

Moments Funeral Home, locally owned and operated, is honored to be in charge of arrangements.
