John Michael “Mike” Steede, age 61, passed away peacefully June 24, 2025, surrounded by his family and loved ones. A proud alumnus of Mississippi State University, he earned both a B.S. and M.S. in Agricultural & Extension Education.
Mike’s life was rooted in his love for his faith, his family, and the land. His devotion to his church and years of mission work reflect an unwavering faith and service to others. His passion for agriculture and stewarding the land is something he passed on to not only his children, but his numerous students – formal and non-formal. He treasured time with his loved ones and passed on values of hard work, integrity, and generosity. In every field he planted, every mission trip he served, and every family memory he made, Mike’s warmth, faith, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all those he loved.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Toler and Iness Steede, Rev. Millard, Virgie and Kathleen Howell; in-laws, Kenneth and Barbara Bell.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Darlene Bell Steede; children, Garrett (Jesse) Steede and Shelby (Mason) Hudson; grandchildren, Ellie Jean and Millie Rae Hudson; parents, C.G. and Glynda Fay Steede; sister, Loretta (Darrin) Steede; brother, Heath (Mandy) Steede; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
The Visitation will be Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM at Crossroads Free Pentecostal Church. The Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 PM in the church sanctuary with Rev. Warren Slay and Rev. Chris Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Carter Cemetery with Pallbearers including Gunter Steede, Hank Cochran, Marty Havard, Greg Mizell, Charlie Flurry and Mike Cochran. Honorary Pallbearers will include Mike’s Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Crossroads Free Pentecostal Church, 7231 River Rd, Lucedale, Mississippi for their mission work of putting water wells in Africa through the Call To The Nations Organization.
