Jennifer Leann Thompson Obituary

On Friday, June 12, 2020, Jennifer Leann Thompson, loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, went to be with the Lord after only 37 years of life.  She was a 2001 graduate of George County High School and a member of Agricola Baptist Church. She received her Undergraduate degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, before obtaining her Law Degree from Mississippi College School of Law.  Leann resided in Jackson, MS and while working at the Mississippi Secretary of State’s office, she served as Assistant Secretary of State for Land Sales and Acquisitions and also worked early on as a Senior Attorney in the Division of Policy and Research.  In September of 2018, she continued her role in State Government by accepting the position of Director of the Office of Compliance for the Mississippi Division of Medicaid.

As a member of the Junior League of Jackson, she had a passion for improving lives in her community. She was currently serving as co-chair for a project called “Where Hope Grows”, a project focused on children’s health.  The Junior League will be placing a bench in Leann’s honor in the community garden for the project.  She was also a graduate of Leadership Greater Jackson and a member of the Rotary Club of Jackson.

Leann is preceded in death by her grandparents Bobby and Doris Thompson, Denny Baker, and Macie Baker, all of Lucedale, and her beloved dog Daisy.

Left to cherish the memories of her kind, sweet, and beautiful soul are her parents, Robert and Lynn Thompson; sisters, Nicki (Kenny) Clark and Kristi Thompson; nephews and niece, Jordan Steele, Justin Steele, Luke Thompson and Ashley Dixon; great-nephew, Roman Steele; beloved pet puppy, Millie; numerous other family and friends.

The Graveside Service for Leann will be Tuesday, June 16, 2020, beginning at 10:00 AM at Agricola Baptist Cemetery with Bro. Heath Havard officiating. Pallbearers will be Jordan Steele, Justin Steele, Luke Thompson, Kenny Clark, Matthew Grady, and Josh Drinkard.

For those that would like to make a donation in lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Junior League of Jackson’s Keystone Fund, in Leann’s honor.  Donations to this fund ensure that permanent funding exists to support the League’s work in the areas of early literacy, children’s health, and the social development of children and youth.  Contributions can be made by visiting jljackson.org or by mailing a check to Junior League of Jackson 805 Riverside Drive, Jackson, MS 39202. Please note your donation is in honor of Leann Thompson.
