James Larry Shirley, age 75, passed away April 14, 2026. He was a faithful member of Watermark Church and a devoted, loving husband who cherished his family above all else. An active presence in his community, he was involved with the Rotary Club, Kiwanis, and the Mississippi Association of Broadcasting, reflecting his dedication to service and his profession. He was well known for his voice on WRBE 106.9 FM, where he connected with listeners and left a lasting impression on all who tuned in. Through his work, he showed great support to local businesses, local sports teams, and community events. He was also a proud and devoted Southern Miss fan. In his free time, he found joy in the outdoors, especially golfing, bicycling, and running marathons, always embracing an active and spirited lifestyle.
He is preceded in death by his father, James Edward Shirley Jr.; mother, Mary Ann Shirley Smith; paternal grandparents, James Edward Shirley Sr. and Eula Jay Shirley; maternal grandparents, Clarence Monroe Nixon and Trudie Mae Hollingsworth Nixon.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Jackie Shirley; son, James Derek Shirley; daughter, Lindsay (David) Whitaker; grandchildren, Olivia (Hunter) Hayden, Jackson Whitaker, Reece Elizabeth Whitaker, Myles Derek Shirley, and Hailey Claire Shirley; siblings, Margie (Mike) Scott, William “Bill” (Penny) Shirley, Martha (Tim) Davis, and Edward “Eddie” (Heather) Shirley; numerous other relatives and friends.
The Visitation will be Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Watermark Church from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The Funeral Service will follow beginning at 11:00 AM. Graveside Service will be in Quitman Cemetery at 3:00 PM. Pallbearers include Jackson Whitaker, Myles Shirley, Mike Scott, Tony Williams, David Whitaker, and Jimmy Scott.
