James Harold Stevens known to most as “Big Jim” went home to be with our Lord and Savior on July 18, 2025. Jim was born on February 3,1957 in Lake Charles, LA to his parents Shirley Marie Rutledge Stevens and James Billy Stevens. The first and only son between this bond. At the age of 17 Jim joined the Air Force in which he served a 10 year tenure. In October of 1976 he met the love of his life Kim Wright, they married on August 26, 1978. They had 3 daughters, Katrina, Melody, and Jamie. They also had the pleasure of raising their grandson Corey Stevens, the son they never had. Jim was a jack of all trades and a master of many. We’re not sure if there was anything he couldn’t do. I don’t think there was ever a place we went that he didn’t know someone. It seemed as if everyone knew “Big Jim”.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife Kim. Daughters Katrina Stevens, Melody (Willie) Sims, Jamie (Derrick Gant) Stevens. Son Corey (Chelsey) Stevens. Sisters Linda (Pepe) Jara, Lona Stevens, Sue (Joe) Speed. Carolyn Beal, Billie Stevens, Alice Walker and Pearl Stevens. Brother James W. Stevens. A devoted brother-in-law that was more like a brother Tracy Wright. Grandchildren Kyiona, Alexia, Christian, Maiah, Willie, Izayah, Corey Jr., Caden, and Cayson. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Proceeded in death by his parents and sisters Pam Walker and Janell Stevens.
I am sure his beloved dog Lucy came running to him as he entered those gates of Heaven. Jim’s wish was to be cremated and donate his organs to someone in need. That wish was granted.
A memorial service will be held on July 27, 2025 at Epworth Methodist Church at 2pm with Bro. Tommy Gaillard officiating.
Moments Funeral Home, locally owned and operated, is honored to be in charge of arrangements.
