Inez N Dunnam

December 11, 1937 ~ April 23, 2022 (age 84)

Obituary

Inez Cameron Dunnam, 84, of Leakesville, MS, passed away the morning of April 23, 2022, in Semmes, AL, after suffering with end-stage COPD. Inez died surrounded by her much-loved granddaughters, Tonya and Melanie, who made sure Inez was spoiled and given an abundance of love in her final years of life.

Inez was preceded in death by her daughter, Carolyn Sue Turner; parents, Harry and Irene Cameron; brothers Joe Cameron, Dan Cameron, and Wayne Cameron; and her beloved miniature schnauzer, Rachel.

Inez is survived by her granddaughter, Tonya Tanner (Melanie Smith); her little dog, Macon; brothers Gary (Margie) Cameron, David (Wanda) Cameron, Grant Cameron, JP Cameron, nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

Inez’s favorite things included spoiling her little Macon, coloring, baking cakes and cooking for others, drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes, and growing flowers. She was recently very proud of her Christmas cactus having a bloom in April.

Inez was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Also, Inez was proud to call herself a veteran of the United States Air Force where she served 1956-1958.

Inez found her life-calling when she was in her fifties. She became a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked at several local nursing homes and rehab facilities. Inez was the kind of CNA who used her own money to buy clothes and gifts for residents without family. She only gave up being a CNA when she was physically unable to continue at age 73. She truly loved caring for others.

Inez is a former resident of Turner Duvall Retirement Village. While there she made countless friends. She loved to bake cakes and prepare meals for her neighbors. In addition, she would drive her friends to doctor appointments or to run errands. She would also help with laundry and other tasks around the community. She was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Inez’s love of animals was no more apparent than when she would foster puppies and dogs for local dog rescue organizations. She helped countless animals feel love while they waited for their forever homes. Rachel was adopted through a rescue and her beloved Macon began as a foster puppy who Inez helped nurse back to health and with whom she had an immediate connection.

Inez also developed a love of “adult coloring” in her seventies. She has completed countless coloring books over the years and loved showing off her works of art. She could never have enough coloring books, colored pencils, or gel pens.

A special thanks to Southern Care Hospice and especially Inez’s nurse, Amberly, whom Inez adored, for the excellent care this past year. The family would also like to thank Moments Funeral Home for their kind service during this difficult time.

A casual “Celebration of Life” will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 10:00AM at Turner Duvall Retirement Community, 32654 MS-57, Leakesville, MS 39451. Inez’s favorite color was purple and her favorite articles of clothing were her “dungarees” so attendants are asked to wear purple and/or jeans if they wish. We welcome attendants to share a few words or memories about Inez.
