Hilda Rouse Obituary

Hilda Faye Rouse, age 76, passed away March 19, 2021. She was born in the Basin Community of George County on September 16, 1944, and she lived her entire adult life in the Buzzard Roost Community where she raised her family. She graduated from Lucedale High School in 1962, and it was there she met her future husband, Butch Rouse. They married on September 5, 1970 and spent the next 51 years together.

She found her church home at Crossroads Free Pentecostal Church in the 1960’s, and she spent the next 60 years as a member at Crossroads serving her Lord and Savior with dedication. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, sang with the Crossroads Quartet, and even filled the pulpit upon request at Crossroads and other churches. She started the Missionettes Ministry at Crossroads and served at Mercy House Ministries for the last decade. She was instrumental in providing Bibles all over the world through her fundraising efforts here at home.

She thought of others first, demonstrated by the fact that if you knew her very well, you would receive a birthday or an anniversary card from her on your special day. She gave great thought to the card that she sent to each person, and she made their card special for them individually. The recipients looked forward to receiving their card because they knew it came from the love she had for them.

Hilda Faye was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and Christian. She lived her life in such a way that pointed those around her to Jesus. She applied to her own life the many lessons she learned through her dedicated study of the Bible. After a wonderful Christian life, she has gone now to receive her Heavenly reward.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernise and Mary Evelyn (Ball) Slay; Brothers, James Charles “JC” Slay, Russell Slay, and Tommy Slay; Sisters, Doris Jean Faurot, Florence May Davis and Mary Nell Box, along with an unnamed baby brother.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Butch Rouse; Son, Dayton (Christy) Rouse; Grandsons, Luke Rouse, Mark (Tessa) Rouse, Jude Rouse; Sister, Anna Merle (Bill) Anderson, along with one brother, Stanley (Elnora) Slay; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Service will be Sunday, March 21, 2021 beginning at 2:00 PM in the church sanctuary with her pastor and nephew Bro. Warren Slay and her life-long friend Bro. Don Cochran officiating.
