Herbert Fisher Obituary

Herbert Daniel Fisher has been a long-time resident of George County. He passed from this life to the next on October 6, 2024

Affectionately known as “Hub” to all who knew him, he was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi to the late Marvin P. and Ada Lillian (Leverette) Fisher on December 24, 1936. Although Hub obtained a limited formal education, he was a wise and prudent man who made a good living, providing well for his wife and family.

Hub came to the Mississippi Gulf Coast in the early 1950’s, where he found a job washing cars at Stockley Motors on Market Street in Pascagoula. In 1959, Hub found the career that he would pursue for over 50 years – Pogie fishing became his livelihood. He would ultimately become captain of many vessels and many crews during his career and became known as “The Sneakin’ Deacon”. He made a final retirement in 2016, at which point his wife, Tina, taught him how to water flowers properly.

On December 8, 1966, Hub married Tina Frith...family life began. He was of the Pentecostal faith, and in 1972, Hub received the Gift of the Holy Ghost. He enjoyed going to church and went on to serve his church in many ways and for many years.

Hub had many passions in life outside of his family & job. Going to Rocky Creek Catfish House for supper, then having Blue Bell Ice Cream at home were two of his favorite things. He was crazy about “Mamo’s” cooking. He loved to hunt, raise cattle, watch Nascar, but mostly he had a knack for ‘horse-trading’. Hub knew how to turn a dollar, but he also knew how to keep one! Joking with folks was also one of the things Hub loved to do. He always had a funny quip for everyone he came across, but when it came time to be serious, all jokes were laid aside.

Hub was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Jocelyn; his siblings, Alton, Loreen, Betty, and Mary.

He is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Tina; his children, Mike, Randy, Daniel (Sherry), Jon and Dwan; as well as his sisters, Margaret, Jeana, and Margie. Hub is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. In addition, leaving to cherish his memory is a host of extended family and friends as well as his church family. Hub’s passing has left a deep void in all of our hearts. His smiling face and country twang will be missed by all.
