Gordon Marshall Garretson, Sr, age 86, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2023. He was a graduate of Leakesville High School and continued his education at Mississippi State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. He worked as a Civil Engineer for Michael Baker Inc, owned and operated his own engineering consulting firm for some time and retired from the Mississippi Department of Transportation. He was a member of the Presbyterian faith and greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, and building projects. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be dearly missed.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ray Freeman Garretson; parents, Harry Forno Garretson and Mildred Rounsaville Garretson; brother, Oscar Rounsaville “Rounsa" Garretson, Sr.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Betty Marsha (Gene) Dent of Jackson, Mississippi and Gordon M. (Joy) Garretson, Jr of Clayton, North Carolina; grandchildren, Duncan Dent, Audrey Dent (Tyler) Douglas, Camille Dent (Tom) Bernier, Lily Garretson and Ivy Garretson; siblings, Harry F. (Jean) Garretson of Leakesville, Mississippi, Roland (Bobbye) Garretson of Brandon, Mississippi, Max (Brenda) Garretson of Gastonia, North Carolina, Roy (Gloria) Garretson of Sumrall, Mississippi and Mary (Ray) Myers of Pensacola, Florida; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The Visitation will be Thursday, May 4, 2023 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Moments Funeral Home, Leakesville. The Graveside Service will follow in McLeod-Magnolia Cemetery with Rev. Ron Pierce officiating.
