George “Buck” W. Fountain, Jr., age 89, of Leakesville, MS passed away on December 24, 2024, at Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula, MS. His daughter, Patty, granddaughter, Melissa and sister-in-law, Faye McNeil were by his side.
Buck was born on April 16, 1935, in Mobile, AL to George “Monkey” Fountain and Sallie Collins Fountain. He attended school in Leakesville and then enlisted into the Marine Corps in May of 1953 and proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged in May 1956.
After his military service, Buck worked for many years with telephone companies beginning with telephone construction and then being promoted to various plant management positions. He also worked at Ingalls Shipbuilding, Greene County Sherriff Dept. and Town of Leakesville Police Dept. Buck enjoyed fishing, playing golf, and spending time with family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Nancy McNeil; parents, George and Sallie Fountain; 4 sisters, Ada, Lela Faye, Carolyn, and Ora Lee; great-granddaughter, Katelyn Beard.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Patty Eubanks and Renee Fountain; son, Jason (Katy) Fountain; granddaughter, Melissa Keys; grandson, Matt (April) Eubanks; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Caleb, Caiden, Destiny, Bree, Braedon, Bryson, Olivia, Nolan, Valerie, Hank and Kennedy; great-great-grandchildren, Allyanna, Sawyer, Kingsleigh, Maverick, Malachi, Avelyn, and Teagan; two brothers, Bobby (Faye) Fountain, and Jimmy (Tina) Fountain; in-laws, Joel (Faye) McNeil and Lynn (Onida) Huhn; many nieces, and nephews.
The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Amelia’s Garden for their compassionate care. He was loved by his family and will be greatly missed.
The Visitation will be Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Moments Funeral Home, Leakesville. The Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Steve Shuman officiating. Burial will follow in East Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.
