George Strickland Obituary

George (Whitey) Vardoman Strickland was born in Clara, MS on December 2,1936. His mother and father were Clarence and Rene Strickland. He worked most of his life as a laborer of construction. He could walk a beam faster than you could blink an eye. Around his early thirties, he met what he would call the most beautiful woman, his wife, Alma. Whitey and Alma had four children together Melissia Kaye, George Darren, Darla Marie, and Dan Mitchell. He had an extraordinary work ethic. He spent his off days being outside, enjoying nature. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed teaching his kids and grandkids to hunt, fish, and garden. If there was an animal on the farm, he kept them fed. He loved a bird whether that be chickens or turkeys. He was a Christian man passionate about reading his bible in the evenings in his easy chair. He has a great passion for his children and grandchildren of whom he loved dearly and was so proud of. His family and friends have many memories shared with him whether it be tilling up the garden, gathering the corn crop for the year, skinning squirrels, swimming in the creek at the hunting club, going for many treats such as a Sonic banana split or a Ward's root beer float. Our most favorable memory of all is learning how to drive a stick shift and "showering down on the ole pickup" as he would call it. Even though he is gone today, he will never be forgotten. He would not want us sad as he is not suffering anymore. Whitey was one of a kind of men, and we will cherish memories of him forever. If there is one thing he taught any of us that is to keep fighting the good fight and never give in.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Alma Pearl Strickland; sons, George Darren Strickland and Dan Mitchell Strickland; parents, Clarence and Rene Strickland; siblings, Leon Strickland, Van R Strickland, Erma Jean Smith, Helen Williams, Gracie Lee Smith, Geraldine Dearman, and Dorthy McInnis.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Melissia Kaye (Curt) Guy and Darla (Anthony) Bice; grandchildren, Daulton (Bailey) McDonald, Jonathon (Lexie) McDonald, Anna Marie McDonald, Darren Anthony Bice, Codie Myron (Caitlin) Harvison, and Kevin Cordell (Tyler) Harvison; great grandchildren, Westyn Kash McDonald, Walley Kade McDonald, Gaberiel Raph Harvison, Riley Lane Harvison, and Camdinn Rose Harvison; siblings, Jeanette Williams, Juanita Hillman, and CV Strickland; numerous other relatives and friends.
