Gaberiel Churchwell, III Obituary

Gaberiel Churchwell, III, age 86, passed away on April 2, 2026. A devoted servant to his community and faith, he was a 62-year member and Past Master of Leakesville Lodge #420. He was also a 50-year member and 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and served as Past Potentate of Joppa Shrine.

Mr. Churchwell was a past president of the Greene-Perry County Gideons, reflecting his deep commitment to sharing his faith. He was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church, where he dedicated over forty years as Minister of Music, touching countless lives through his ministry.

In his leisure time, he found great joy in the outdoors, hunting and fishing.

He will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his service to others, and the lasting impact he made on his church, community, and fellow brethren.

He is preceeded in death by his parents, Gaberiel Tyiuse Churchwell, Jr., and Helen Virginia Bradley Churchwell; sister, Mary Helen Churchwell Dearman and brother, Rufus Bradley Churchwell.  

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 68 years, Mildred Byrd Churchwell; daughter, Janet (Spencer) Rounsaville; son, Gaberiel Tyiuse (Carla) Churchwell, IV; grandchildren, Leslie Churchwell (John) Williams, Christopher (Courtney Danielle) Rounsaville, and Caitlin Churchwell (Codie) Harvison; great grandchildren, Ramsee Rounsaville, Raph Harvison, Raelyn Rounsaville, Rolin Rounsaville, Lane Harvison, Camdinn Harvison, and Eliza Carol Churchwell Williams; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The Graveside Service will be Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at McLeod Magnolia Cemetery beginning at 10:00 AM with Bro. John Read, Bro. Paul Walters and Bro. Seth Walters officiating. Pallbearers include Eugene Cooper, Alex Cooper, Claude Dickson, Chad Helton, Scott Welford, Wesley Harvison. Honorary Pallbearers include Irvin Wayne Farmer, Leakesville Lodge #420, R.P. Bowen Lodge #430 and the Greene/Perry County Gideons.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Gideons.
