Douglas Victor Merritt Sr., age 64, passed away April 12, 2026. He found his greatest joy in the outdoors, whether he was casting a line in his favorite fishing spot or spending quiet mornings hunting. Those moments brought him peace, but nothing meant more to him than his family. He cherished every second with his children and especially his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. A faithful member of River of Life Tabernacle, his strong beliefs guided the way he lived. He was kind, steady, and full of love for those around him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Simon Merritt; brother, Charlie Merritt.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sandra Goff Merritt; mother, Mahala Merritt; children, Douglas (Tara) Merritt Jr. , Sarah (Richard) Hoven, Caleb (Stephanie) Merritt, Benjamin (Candyse) Merritt, Victoria (Torrington) Batin, and Lily (Denis) Shamataylo; siblings, Danny Merritt, Debra (Gill) Crooker, Don (Rita) Merritt, and Dana Pope; 11 grandchildren; numerous other relatives and friends.
The Graveside Service will be Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Magnolia Garden Cemetery with Pastor Mark McLendon officiating. Pallbearers include Don Merritt, Douglas Merritt Jr., Caleb Merritt, Ben Merritt, Richard Hoven, Torrington Batin, Denis Shamataylo, and Kobi Merritt. Honorary Pallbearers include Jonah Merritt, Westyn Hoven, and Asher McLendon.
