David Irwin Cobb, 77, of Agricola, MS, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 30, 2023. The youngest of seven, David was born on May 15, 1946, to the late Lacy Boyd and Janie Ruth Cobb in Choctaw County, MS. He was a wonderful husband, father, pawpaw, brother, uncle, and friend who will be dearly missed.
David proudly served and retired from the Mississippi Army National Guard after over 25 years with the rank of First Sergeant. He worked at Ingalls Shipbuilding in many roles including craft, management and training for 49 years retiring in 2013. Due to his time in the National Guard and his employment at Ingalls, so many people refer to him as a friend and mentor. He always strived to do his best in whatever he was doing.
He was a devout Christian who over the years served his church and church families in many capacities, including deacon. He was also a Master Mason and Joppa Shriner and was very proud of these accomplishments.
A few of David’s hobbies were sitting on his back porch, watching the birds, visiting with friends and neighbors, and always being in the yard working.
He truly loved life and never met a stranger. Within a short period of time, he would know all he could about you because he cared. He was most proud of his family and he loved them dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Johnny, Bill, Tom, Benny, and Robert Cobb; sister, Virginia Jackson.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 57 years, Barbara Cobb; son, Randall (Amy) Cobb; Granddaughters, Lawren and Emily Cobb; sister-in-law, Lora Mae Cobb; and many special nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbors, and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jennifer with Enhabit Home Health; Singing River Health System doctors and employees, specifically Dr. Randy Roth, Dr. Techksell Washington, Dr. Ijlal Babar, and Cindy Stokes; Hospice of Light, specifically his nurses Rhonda and Katrina.
The family will hold private services at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for donations made in his memory to Singing River Foundation (3109 Bienville Blvd., Ocean Springs, MS 39564) or Wings of Life Recovery (3401 Newman Rd., Mobile, AL 36695).
