Chester "Check" Richard Pope, Sr.

Chester Richard “Check” Pope, Sr., age 89, passed away March 25, 2025. He was born in Lucedale, Mississippi to Chester H. Pope and Emogene Allman Pope on July 08, 1935. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.

Check was a hardworking man whose work ethic was beyond compare. He was proud of his work as a Project Manager and Superintendent on construction jobs around the Southern States. He was a Boilermaker with the Local 110 for many years before retiring from Glad Industries in 2000. He also served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959. Check was an avid hunter and fisherman spending many days with his family and friends on the Pascagoula River. His family was his legacy, and he was proud of each one.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Chester H. Pope and Emogene Allman Pope; Daughter, Susan Kelly Pope.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of nearly 70 years, Jean Rouse Pope; Children, Lisa (Thomas) O’Neal, Rich (Christy) Pope, and Andy (Dana) Pope; Sister, Gloria Tillman; Grandchildren, Hanna (Branden) Rogers, Haley (Jarrod) Massey, Lindsay Moreno, Betsey Jackson, Erin (Jesse) Radcliff, Rob Blankinchip, Taylor Pope, Trace Pope, Carly Pope, and Hunter Pope; Great Grandchildren, Jacob (Alex) Rogers, Justin (Hope) Rogers, Laurie Kate Rogers, Cameron Blankinchip, Lucy Jackson, Aiden Radcliff, Lydia Moreno, Taylor Rogers, Lila Radcliff, Reid Massey, Tatum Moreno, Ryan Massey, Mia Radcliff, and Sadie Pope; Great-Great Grandchildren, Reese Rogers and Ellie Kate Rogers.

The visitation will be Thursday, March 27, 2025 at Moments Funeral Home from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM. The funeral services will begin at 12:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Branden Rogers and Dr. Richard Harvey officiating. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers include Rusty Cochran, Jason Fallon, Wayne Miller Jr., Matt Reeves, Jacob Rogers, and Jason Wade; Honorary Pallbearers Thomas O’Neal and Dennis Miller.
