Charles Havard Obituary

Mr. Charles Ellis Havard "Charlie" of Leakesville, MS was born January 31, 1948 at home to Freddie and Louise Havard and passed on to his heavenly home on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.  As a youth, Charlie accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior at Rhymes Church Lucedale, MS.

Charlie was known for his story telling and had an adventurous spirit.  He loved to travel and see new places.  Traveling the country with his family, he worked for many years in the construction industry on jobs in the shipyard, tank building industries and out west in Nevada in the gold mines erecting buildings.  He eventually returned home to George/Greene County where he erected numerous buildings and other construction projects in Lucedale, Leakesville, and surrounding areas.  His hard work and determination was on display throughout his life.  Quite a man, he was a friend to many and would stop at the drop of a hat to help anyone in need.  He was a Jack of all Trades and some would say Master of all Trades.   Upon retirement, Charlie built a workshop and enjoyed working with wood.  He built tables, bowls, baby cribs, rocking horses, and benches.  You name it and he could build it.  One of his favorite hobbies was making firework cannons which he would shoot with his nieces and nephews at Christmas and special events.   As a loved one, you could expect a handcrafted gift at Christmas and birthdays especially his grandchildren and great-granddaughter Allie Stewart. He loved his family dearly and was always there for them.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Freddie and Louise Havard, sister Betty Jean Havard, brothers Ralph, Leroy and Herman Ray Havard, sister-in-law, Tonja Havard, infant twins, Yolanda and Dawn.

He is survived by his wife Wanda Havard of Leakesville, MS, children, Larinda Carol Havard, Edmond Havard (Missy), Dean Havard, Elizabeth Dickerson (Jason) and Matthew Thurston.  Granddaughters, Laura Gail Havard Stewart (Colton) and Makayla Dickerson.  Great granddaughter, Allie Gail Stewart.  Siblings Helen Marie Hinton (Frank), Ethel “MaeMae” Havard, JoAnn Havard, Freddie Joe Havard (Shirley), Ricky Havard, and Annette Harvison (Jimmy) and sister-in-laws, Marilyn Havard and Marcella Havard.
