Charles Wayne “Charlie” Churchwell, age 76, went home to be with the Lord on January 13, 2026.
Charlie was a 1967 graduate of George County High School and dedicated his life to serving his community in many meaningful ways. He served for many years as Fire Chief of the Agricola Volunteer Fire Department and later as a Fire Inspector. He also proudly served George County as a Deputy Sheriff.
He was employed as a pipefitter at Ingalls Shipbuilding, where he later instructed others in the trade. As an accomplished automotive technician, Charlie owned and operated Charlie’s Automotive in Lucedale for many years. He furthered his professional career by teaching auto body repair at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
Charlie was a proud Mason and Shriner, living out the principles of service, fellowship, and charity throughout his life. Charlie was an active and faithful member of Agricola Baptist Church and will be especially missed by his Sunday School class. Above all, he was a devoted husband, loving daddy, Pawpaw, great-grandfather, and a dear friend to many throughout the community. His legacy of service, hard work, and faith will long be remembered by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ford and Inez Churchwell; brother, Robert Earl Churchwell; parents-in-law, C.D. and Thelma Davidson.
Left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 55 years, Nancy Davidson Churchwell; daughter, Angie (Terry) Whittington; grandchildren, Devin (Kammie) Whittington, Derrick Whittington, and Emily (Cory) Lambert; great grandchildren, Alana Whittington, Luke Whittington, and Arleigh Lambert; and numerous loved ones and friends.
The Visitation will be Thursday, January 15, 2026 from 2:30 until 3:30 PM at Moments Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will begin at 3:30 PM in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Shane Hamblin and Bro. Tommy Mitchel officiating. Burial will follow in Agricola Cemetery. Pallbearers include Devin Whittington, Cory Lambert, Kennith Mallette, Ricky Churchwell, Johnny Tanner and Winfred Tanner. Honorary Pallbearers include Stafford Baker, Alton Davidson, Derrick Whittington, Terry Whittington, Mike Jones and Mike Pierce.
