Charles Burns Obituary

Charles A. Burns, age 87, passed away peacefully July 8, 2022. He was a 1952 graduate of Beat Four High School in Wayne County. He furthered his education at the University of Southern Mississippi where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. He had many memberships to several Baptist churches in many states throughout the south in his lifetime. He was a talented author, poet, songwriter and businessman. He enjoyed traveling internationally to spread the Gospel.  He will be remembered as a Godly man with a dry wit. He was a devoted husband and the best daddy and grandpa ever.            

He is preceded in death by his son, Charles Andrew “Andy” Burns, Jr.; grandson, Benjamin Andrew Lewis; parents, William and Ethel Burns; siblings, Pearl Rochelle and William Burns.      

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 68 years, Hazel Burns; daughters, Karen (Tony) Gray, Kathy (Willie) Dyson and Krystal Lewis; grandchildren, Zachery (Jennifer) Dyson, Corey (Mary Elizabeth) Dyson, Casey (Krista) Dyson, Hannah (Sean) Rosemeyer, Katie (Chris) Stafford, Brooklyn (Preston) Harrell and Blake (Breann) Lewis; seventeen great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Nikki Matros; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including the Chiv family of Houston, Texas who he was proud of and loved.             

The Celebration of Life will be Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Moments Funeral Home, Leakesville, Mississippi beginning at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Charles Burns.
