Charlene (Mathis) Smith

Charlene Smith, age 81, passed away peacefully June 22, 2022 with her loving husband by her side. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her heart was of solid gold and her love was so pure and unconditional. She loved having family around her. Rocking babies to sleep on the front porch swing while singing “Mockingbird Hill” is where you could find her most times. She was the backbone of the family. “A wife, a mother, a grandma too, this is the legacy we have from you.”

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Connie Hester; parents, C.E. Mathis and Bonnie Mae Arnold Mathis; brother, George Arnold “Sonnie” Mathis.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 62 years, Anthony Jerry “AJ” Smith; grandchildren, Jessica (Jamie) Bullock and Farah Elkins; great grandchildren; Eliel Jordan (Anna) Mounteer, Kameron Ray (Tabitha) Mounteer, Jaiden Lee Couch, Alyvia “Charlie” Bullock, Brian Max Southey and Wren Isabella Southey; great-great grandchildren, Brantley Laine Mounteer, Owen Eliel Mounteer, Jack Bradley Mounteer and Harper Elaine Mounteer; sister, Elaine (Mickey) Yates; brother, Steve (Susan) Mathis; sister-in-law, Donna (Norman) Branum; numerous other relatives and friends.          

The Visitation will be Friday, June 24, 2022 at Canaan Assembly of God in Moss Point, Mississippi from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 AM in the church sanctuary with Bro. Rodney Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Carter Cemetery.
