Cammie Cook Obituary

Cammie Anne Cook, age 58, passed away January 31, 2021. She was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church. She greatly enjoyed reading, camping, cooking and watching Alabama football.  She graduated from George County High School in 1980 and attended college at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community college. She worked in the insurance industry for many years before she began her career with the Mississippi Department of Corrections in 1999 at the South Mississippi Correctional Institution (SMCI)in the training division. She briefly left corrections and worked for the Mississippi Department of Health and human services. She returned to Corrections at the George County Probation and parole field office as a field worker. She worked there for many years before transferring back to SMCI as Pre-Release Counselor. Cammie Anne was looking forward to ending her career with MDOC this year when she would have been eligible to retire.             

She is preceded in death by her mother, Linda Merlene Box; maternal grandmother, Lena Mae Eckhoff; paternal grandmother, Cammie Gibson Box; paternal grandfather, Rufus Charlie Box; step-son, Jason Ashley Cook; brother-in-law, Darrell Thomen.    

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Roger D. Cook; son, Raymond M. Smith; step-daughter, Kristie Cook West; father, John L. Box; sisters, Stephanie Thomen and Melinda (Robbie) Braxton; nephews, John (Ashley) Hamblin and Jacob Braxton; 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; numerous other relatives and friends.                    

The Visitation for Cammie Cook, will be Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Moments Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM. The Funeral Service will be Thursday, February 4, 2021 at Union Missionary Baptist Church beginning at 10:00 AM with Bro. Terry Smith and Bro. Ricky Cook officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Union Missionary Baptist Church cemetery. Pallbearers include John Hamblin, Alex Hamblin, Jacob Braxton, Terry Box, Keith Havard and Nick Hostetter.
