Betty Stockman Obituary

Betty C. Stockman, 79, of Hurley, Mississippi, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at her home in Hurley, MS, surrounded by her loving family.  Betty was born to the late Victor and Verda Mae Hancock on September 28, 1942.  She was a faithful, long-time member of Hurley Baptist Church.   Betty served as a Sunday School Teacher, WMU member, served on various committees, sang in the church choir, and was chairperson of the benevolence committee.  Although she was unable to walk and attend church physically since January 2021, she worshipped from home each week with her family and church family and was an active member of the prayer chain at Hurley Baptist Church until days before her death.  Her favorite role was a devoted Christian wife, mother, and grandmother.  Her family and friends will miss her dearly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Johnny Stockman Sr., a son Johnny Stockman Jr., parents Victor and Verda Mae Hancock, grandparents Frank and Nettie Sherman, her brother Kenneth Hancock, her uncles James “Bud” Sherman, Lavon Sherman, Rudolph “Dolph” Sherman, Gary Lionel Sherman, and General Leon (Gent) Sherman.   Additionally, her father-in-law and mother-in-law Hassell and Imogene Stockman, Sister-in-Law Betty Taylor, and brothers-in-law Jimmy Stockman, Carl Stockman, and Ted Davis. (Wanda)

She is survived by her daughter, Lori Perek (Mike), son Matthew Scott Stockman, grandson Jonathan Perek, sister Virginia (Chuck) Langer, brother Charles Randall (Randy) Hancock, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives, special Sunday School Women’s Class at Hurley Baptist Church, and friends.

It was the wish of Betty to donate her body for medical research through Medcure in the fields of diabetes, coronary heart disease, peripheral artery disease, and any other area that may benefit those in need.

The family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice for their excellent, loving, and compassionate care over the past 18 months including Chelsea, Keiosha, Donna, Debbie, Nan, Suzanne, Leigh Anne, Sandi, Rob, Bobby, and Rachel.  Additionally, the family would like to express our sincere appreciation to Lance Sudduth, Pastor of Hurley Baptist Church, David Martin, and former Pastor John Micah Egbert, and Cathy Little for your visits, care, and most of all your prayers.

Visitation will be held from 1:00-1:45 pm on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Hurley Baptist Church at 6810 Hurley Wade Road, Moss Point MS, 39562.  A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 pm in the sanctuary.  Vacation Bible School decorations will be on display in the sanctuary since VBS ends on June 12, 2022, with Commencement.  Since she loved children and VBS so much, the family feels this is a perfect addition to the Celebration of her Life.
