Betty Fowler Mizell, age 76, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025, at Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula, Mississippi. She was born on February 5, 1949 to the late Houston Fowler and Violet (Martin) Havard.
In 1979, Betty became a nurse and was a nurturing caregiver in both hospital and geriatric care facilities. She retired in 2006 to devote her time and attention to the care of her husband, David. Betty had a self-less and giving spirit and always put others needs before her own. Family was incredibly important to Betty and she loved being surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Her fondest wish was to be surrounded by family at Christmas.
Betty was a woman of faith, and as she struggled this past year with her health, she stood fast in her belief. We know that today she is smiling down from Heaven, surrounded by all of those that she loved who passed before her, and is at peace and happy to finally be in her heavenly home.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, as well as brothers, David Havard, Leslie Havard, and Michael Havard and sisters, Linda Penisten, Jane Huber, and Helen Havard.
Betty is survived by her husband of 56 years, David E. Mizell. She also leaves behind 4 children; daughters, Tracie Mizell, of Charleston, South Carolina, Amy (David) Doucet, of Titusville, Florida, Lydia (Benjamin) O’Connor of Gautier, Mississippi, and son, Jeff Mizell, of Gautier, Mississippi; 7 grandchildren, Hannah, Derek, Katie, Layla, Stella, Maya and Adalyn; as well as 3 great grandchildren, Tory, Kaiden, and Cheyanna.
The Visitation will be Thursday, November 20, 2025 at Moments Funeral Home from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. The Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. Pallbearers include Jeff Mizell, Benjamin O’Connor, David Doucet, Mitchell Havard, Jimmy Mizell, Larry “Boodle” Phillips and Derek Mizell.
Moments Funeral Home, locally owned and operated, is honored to be in charge of arrangements.
